5 Tips on Choosing the Right Dog
Looking for that perfect dog but not sure what kind to get? Well here are a 5 tips that will help find the perfect dog.
How Active Am I?
Your activity level needs to play important part in the selection of your new puppy. Be honest with yourself, if you are a couch potato it might not be a good idea to get a highly active dog like Terrier or a Greyhound. This also works the other way if you enjoy an active life style of running and hiking you may want to stay away from English Bulldogs or other more laid back breeds. You are are getting a dog to be a part of your life and the two of you will be much happier if you share the same interests.

How Much Space do I have for my dog?
Much like your activity level as we talked about above, the space you can provide you and your dog will play an important role in your relationship. Now this is not to say that all big dogs cannot live in apartments or in the city. Dogs like Great Danes have been known to do quite well in a city environment, so long as they get a nice walk regularly. Remember that big dogs take a lot of space up and will need proper exercise in order to prevent excessive weight gain.

Children and Dogs?
Socializing dogs and children is very important and should been done when both are young but even the kindest dog should NEVER be left along with young children. Small kids don’t have the concept of subtlety and can unintentionally
hurt animals which can lead to small bites or worse. Always use cation when selecting a dog that will be in contact with small children. Talk to breeders about what dog will fit into your family life. Some dogs that are known to make wonderful family pets are the Newfoundland and the evey popular Golden Retriever.

Dog and Allergies?
Have Allergies but still want a dog well while no dog is a 100% Allergy free they do have some breeds that will produce minimal dander. Dogs like the Poodle and the once “Most popular dog in America” the Airedale Terrier do not shed and will reduce the chance for an allergy attack.

Grooming
This can be one thing that is overlooked when selecting a puppy epically the first time you buy a dog. The grooming time and costs for some dogs can be daunting and other breeds like the French and English Bulldogs may need extra assistance in cleaning out wrinkles among “other areas”. Watch for some short haired breeds they can shed a great deal more then you could imagine. Now not all dog are a grooming nightmare some dogs like the Weimaraner you can just hose off in the back yard and they are ready to go.
